Helicopters for the Shri Amarnathji Yatra fly from two base camps, Baltal and Pahalgam, to the Panchtarni helipad, about 6 km short of the holy cave. The sector from Baltal takes seven minutes and the one from Pahalgam about twenty; from Panchtarni pilgrims walk, ride a pony or take a palki to the cave and return for the afternoon sortie.
Tickets are sold only through the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board's authorised online channel and the counters of the approved operators. Each ticket is for one pilgrim, one date and one sector, issued against the yatra registration number, so registration with the Compulsory Health Certificate comes first. Sales usually open in May or June for the late June or July start, and the opening-week dates sell out within days.
We book the sector for the date on your registration slip the day sales open, match the hotel nights at Sonamarg or Pahalgam to it, and keep a pony or palki backup for the day the weather grounds the flights. City-wise booking help, the fare, the dates and the rules are in the guides below.

Fares are from recent seasons and are indicative. The Shrine Board publishes the 2027 helicopter fare with the yatra schedule. Grounded sorties are refunded by the operator.

No. It depends on Shrine Board and security approval each season and on weather every day. In some years no helicopter service was operated. Our packages keep a pony, palki or trek backup and refund the ticket if the sector does not fly.
About 6 km, 2 to 3 hours on foot each way. Ponies and palkis are available at the helipad at rates fixed by the district administration.
