Pahalgam, at 2,130 m on the Lidder river 90 km from Srinagar, is the traditional base of the Amarnath Yatra and the greener of the two helicopter bases. The Pahalgam to Panchtarni sector flies over Chandanwari, Sheshnag lake and the Mahagunas Pass, the route pilgrims walk in three days, and lands at the Panchtarni helipad in about twenty minutes.
The fare is higher than Baltal because the flight is longer, about ₹4,900 one way in recent seasons, but Pahalgam has better hotels, the Betaab and Aru valleys for the spare day, and the gentler road from Srinagar. Our Pahalgam helicopter packages keep two nights there so that a weather hold does not cost the darshan.
The helipad is a short drive from the Pahalgam hotels, and the RFID check and weigh-in are done at the gate. Pilgrims who want to walk part of the way can fly up and trek down the Baltal route, or trek up and fly from Panchtarni to Pahalgam.

The Pahalgam sector is about three times longer in the air, roughly 20 minutes against 7, so the fare is higher. It replaces a three-day trek, while Baltal replaces a one-day trek.
Yes. Pilgrims who want to see both routes fly Pahalgam to Panchtarni, visit the cave and trek down the 14 km Baltal route, or take the Panchtarni to Baltal sortie if seats are available. We arrange the vehicle at Baltal.
Only through the Shrine Board's authorised online channel and the counters of the approved operators. Tickets are per pilgrim, for one date and one sector, against the yatra registration number. We book them for package pilgrims on the opening day.
