Pilgrims flying into Srinagar have two helicopter options for the Amarnath cave: the Baltal sector, 95 km away via Sonamarg with a seven-minute flight, and the Pahalgam sector, 90 km away with a twenty-minute flight. Both land at Panchtarni, 6 km from the cave, and both return the same day.
The Baltal sector is cheaper (about ₹2,800 one way in recent seasons against ₹4,900 from Pahalgam) and is the usual choice for short plans; Pahalgam suits pilgrims who want the Lidder valley and a Kashmir tour around the darshan. Charter helicopters from Srinagar airport to the yatra helipads are not part of the Shrine Board service; private charters, where permitted, are quoted on request.

Three days at minimum: drive to Sonamarg on arrival, fly from Baltal the next morning and return to Srinagar, fly home on day 3. Four or five days add a Srinagar day for the RFID card and a weather buffer.

No. It depends on Shrine Board and security approval each season and on weather every day. In some years no helicopter service was operated. Our packages keep a pony, palki or trek backup and refund the ticket if the sector does not fly.
About 6 km, 2 to 3 hours on foot each way. Ponies and palkis are available at the helipad at rates fixed by the district administration.
