Amarnath Yatra Helicopter Age Limit: What You Need to Know

The age limit for the Amarnath Yatra, and therefore for the helicopter, is set by the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board: pilgrims must be at least 13 and not more than 70 years old on the date of the yatra. Women more than six weeks pregnant are not permitted. The limits apply to the helicopter because every ticket is issued against a yatra registration, which enforces them.

Every pilgrim within the age limit must carry a Compulsory Health Certificate from a doctor or hospital on the authorised list, issued after the date the Board announces each year. The cave is at about 3,888 m and the Panchtarni helipad at 3,650 m, so the certificate screens for heart, lung, blood pressure and other conditions that altitude worsens.

There is no separate helicopter age limit, no concession fare and no infant rule, because children below 13 cannot register. Senior citizens up to 70 fly on the same ticket and are advised the pony or palki from Panchtarni.

FAQs: Amarnath Yatra Helicopter Age Limit

Can a 12-year-old go on the Amarnath Yatra by helicopter?

No. The Shrine Board age limit is 13 to 70 for the yatra, and helicopter tickets are issued only against a yatra registration.

Is there an upper age limit for the helicopter?

The yatra limit of 70 applies. Pilgrims above 70 cannot register and therefore cannot fly, even with a fitness certificate.

Is the CHC needed if I take the helicopter?

Yes. The CHC is part of the yatra registration for every pilgrim, whichever way they reach the cave.

Where are Amarnath helicopter tickets sold?

Only through the Shrine Board's authorised online channel and the counters of the approved operators. Tickets are per pilgrim, for one date and one sector, against the yatra registration number. We book them for package pilgrims on the opening day.

What is the Amarnath helicopter fare?

About ₹2,800 one way from Baltal and ₹4,900 one way from Pahalgam to Panchtarni in recent seasons. The Shrine Board publishes the 2027 fare with the schedule.

Is helicopter service guaranteed?

No. It depends on Shrine Board and security approval each season and on weather every day. In some years no helicopter service was operated. Our packages keep a pony, palki or trek backup and refund the ticket if the sector does not fly.

How far is the cave from the Panchtarni helipad?

About 6 km, 2 to 3 hours on foot each way. Ponies and palkis are available at the helipad at rates fixed by the district administration.
