Amarnath Yatra Helicopter Availability: What You Need to Know

Helicopter availability for the Amarnath Yatra depends on three things: the number of helicopters the Shrine Board approves for each sector, the weather on the day, and demand for the date. Baltal has more aircraft and more seats than Pahalgam, and both sectors run a fixed number of sorties between first light and early afternoon.

Opening-week dates and weekends sell out within days of each sales phase; mid-July weekdays usually stay open for weeks. Weather holds reduce the number of sorties on a day, so pilgrims with early slots fly first and later slots may roll to the next morning.

Helicopter operations also need Shrine Board and security approval each season, and in some years no service was operated. We check availability for your date on the authorised channel, book the moment it opens and keep a pony or palki backup in every plan.

FAQs: Amarnath Yatra Helicopter Availability

Is the Amarnath helicopter available every day of the yatra?

In seasons when the service is approved, sorties run every day of the yatra in clear weather from first light to early afternoon. Fog, rain and wind hold or cancel them; grounded tickets are refunded.

Is there a waitlist for helicopter tickets?

The authorised channel does not run a waitlist. Seats released by cancellations reappear on the channel; we watch for them for pilgrims who missed their date.

Where are Amarnath helicopter tickets sold?

Only through the Shrine Board's authorised online channel and the counters of the approved operators. Tickets are per pilgrim, for one date and one sector, against the yatra registration number. We book them for package pilgrims on the opening day.

What is the Amarnath helicopter fare?

About ₹2,800 one way from Baltal and ₹4,900 one way from Pahalgam to Panchtarni in recent seasons. The Shrine Board publishes the 2027 fare with the schedule.

Is helicopter service guaranteed?

No. It depends on Shrine Board and security approval each season and on weather every day. In some years no helicopter service was operated. Our packages keep a pony, palki or trek backup and refund the ticket if the sector does not fly.

How far is the cave from the Panchtarni helipad?

About 6 km, 2 to 3 hours on foot each way. Ponies and palkis are available at the helipad at rates fixed by the district administration.
