The short sector: seven minutes from the Baltal base camp to the Panchtarni helipad, then 6 km to the holy cave. The busiest and cheapest helicopter of the yatra, about ₹2,800 one way in recent seasons. Booking, timings and the Sonamarg plan below.
Baltal, at 2,740 m at the head of the Sindh valley near Sonamarg, is the short route to the Amarnath cave and the base of the busiest helipad of the yatra. The Baltal to Panchtarni sector takes about seven minutes and lands at 3,650 m, 6 km short of the cave; pilgrims walk, ride a pony or take a palki for the last stretch and return for an afternoon sortie.
Because the flight is short the fare is the lowest of the two sectors, about ₹2,800 one way in recent seasons, and the whole darshan is done between sunrise and mid-afternoon. Most of our helicopter packages use this sector, with the night before at Sonamarg, 15 km below the helipad, or in the Baltal camp itself.
Baltal is 95 km from Srinagar via Ganderbal and Sonamarg, 3 to 4 hours by road with convoy timings on yatra days. The RFID check post is at the Baltal gate and the helipad is a short walk from the camp.

Baltal is shorter and cheaper and suits most pilgrims and short plans. Pahalgam suits pilgrims staying in the Lidder valley or doing a Kashmir tour. Both land at the same Panchtarni helipad.
Yes. The Baltal trek is 14 km each way via Domel, Barari Marg and Sangam, done in a day with pony help. Our coordinator arranges ponies or palkis if the sortie is grounded.
Only through the Shrine Board's authorised online channel and the counters of the approved operators. Tickets are per pilgrim, for one date and one sector, against the yatra registration number. We book them for package pilgrims on the opening day.

No. It depends on Shrine Board and security approval each season and on weather every day. In some years no helicopter service was operated. Our packages keep a pony, palki or trek backup and refund the ticket if the sector does not fly.
About 6 km, 2 to 3 hours on foot each way. Ponies and palkis are available at the helipad at rates fixed by the district administration.
