Every detail of doing the Amarnath Yatra by helicopter on one page: the two sectors, the fare, how booking and registration work, who can fly, the day itself, weather rules and the packages.
The Amarnath Yatra by helicopter replaces the trek with a short flight from Baltal (7 minutes) or Pahalgam (20 minutes) to the Panchtarni helipad at 3,650 m, 6 km short of the holy cave. The last 6 km are covered on foot, pony or palki, and the return sortie is the same day.
Tickets are per pilgrim, per date, per sector, sold through the Shrine Board's authorised channel at a fixed fare against the yatra registration number. Registration needs a Compulsory Health Certificate and is open to pilgrims aged 13 to 70. Sales usually open in May or June for a yatra running from late June or July to Raksha Bandhan.
The sections below cover each part in turn; the packages at the end include the ticket, the night near the helipad, the vehicle and a coordinator.

Fares are from recent seasons and are indicative. The Shrine Board publishes the 2027 helicopter fare with the yatra schedule. Grounded sorties are refunded by the operator.

No. Helicopters land at Panchtarni, about 6 km from the cave. The last stretch is on foot, pony or palki and takes two to three hours each way.

No. It depends on Shrine Board and security approval each season and on weather every day. In some years no helicopter service was operated. Our packages keep a pony, palki or trek backup and refund the ticket if the sector does not fly.
About 6 km, 2 to 3 hours on foot each way. Ponies and palkis are available at the helipad at rates fixed by the district administration.
